Jerry Grimaud of Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures, Inc., Awarded Honored Life Membership in IFAI

Jerry Grimaud of Lawrence Fabric and Metal Structures, Inc., has been awarded an Honored Life Membership in IFAI.  This distinction is bestowed by special request, solely at the discretion of the IFAI board of directors.

Grimaud started working at Lawrence in 1979.  Throughout his time in the industry, he has served on numerous trade association boards, including the Lightweight Structures Association (LSA), the Fabric Graphics Association (FGA) and the Professional Awning Manufacturers Association (PAMA). He has presented several IFAI/division-hosted educational seminars and was instrumental in creating many elements of today’s AIA-accredited CES presentations for both the FGA and PAMA.

Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures, Inc. Wins 2017 International Achievement Award

Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures, Inc. was recognized with the 2017 International Achievement Award (IAA) for design excellence in specialty fabrics applications.

Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures received an Award of Excellence for its Maggie McFly’s project. The project was recognized in the competition’s Fabric Graphics category.

For seven decades, IAA has recognized excellence in design and innovation, highlighting truly spectacular work in the specialty fabrics and technical textiles industry. The International Achievement Awards competition is sponsored by IFAI, a not-for-profit trade association who’s over 1,600-member companies represent the growing international specialty fabrics and technical textiles marketplace.

IFAI received a total of 235 entries from 11 countries that were submitted for 42 categories in this year’s competition. Winners were selected based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function. Judges included industry experts, editors, architects, educators and design professionals who were chosen for their knowledge in a particular field of study or product area.

All entries receive prominent recognition at the IFAI Expo, the largest specialty fabrics tradeshow in the Americas. Winners receive additional publicity through coverage in IFAI magazines and press releases distributed to media professionals.

Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures, Inc was recognized for 9 Craftsmanship Awards at the Midwest Fabric Products Association 2017 Zone Conference on February, 3, 2017. These prestigious awards are presented for outstanding and innovative work. Projects are voted upon by industry peers at the conference. 

1st Place-Residential-Single Family – Custom fabric radiused and sloped cantilevered canopy for a backyard patio area.

2nd Place- Residential Multiple Family-Bethesda Senior Living – Custom motorized retractable Durasol Gennius canopy system for a 3rd floor senior living facility patio area.

1st Place- Commercial Awnings & Canopies- Under 30 Linear Ft- Mid City Dental – Unique Gable designed stairway canopy, fabricated in 3 sections.

1st Place-Commercial Awnings & Canopies Over 30 Linear Ft- Crestview School – Custom fabricated cantilevered arched canopy created for shade protection over competing swimmers.

1st Place-Interior Awnings & Design- Sunbelle – Modular structure custom designed exhibit for a trade show.

1st Place-Industrial- Waterway Car Wash – Framed fabric ceiling acoustical panels (6) 8′ x 20′ for the interior waiting lobby area of a car wash.

1st Place-New & Unusual- Heartland Pharmacy – Unique tear drop shaped decorative domes on top of 2 stair cases for a 2-level retail strip mall.

2nd Place-Fabric Graphics- Worldwide Technology – Rectangular fabric hanging sign created to hang over a trade show exhibit.

1st Place-Fabric Structures-Fire ‘n’ Smoke – Restaurant patio tension fabric shade sail structure, measuring 16’wide x 15’ 6” projection designed for snow loads to remain installed year-round to protect customers.

Lawrence Fabric received an Award of Excellence for its Sigma Aldrich Manufacturing project. The project was recognized in the competition’s Commercial Awnings & canopies < 1,000 Square Feet category. In addition, Lawrence received an Outstanding Achievement Award for its University of Iowa Dental Science Building project. The project was recognized in the competition’s Exterior Shades & Screens category.
