Brent R. Wood Named New President of the TRRA

Brent R. Wood has had the “Interim” tag removed from his title and has been named the new President of the TRRA. Brent has served TRRA as its Chief Financial Officer since 2017. Prior to that, Brent spent over 35 years in various roles in the coal and power industries, and four years in public accounting. Brent served in various corporate and division accounting roles for Zeigler Coal Holding Company/Old Ben Coal Company and Peabody Energy. Later he served as treasurer and corporate controller for Prairie State Generating Company, a $5B coal fired power plant and mining facility, where he developed the accounting and finance function for the start-up operation. He has served as treasurer and corporate controller for White Oak Resources, a $600M start longwall mining operation in Southern Illinois.

“Brent’s ascent to the President’s role from being TRRA’s CFO is timely as our company navigates through post-Covid supply chain issues while at the same time identifying and maximizing funding opportunities to reinvest in TRRA’s infrastructure. Nelch Promoted to Tarlton Project Director

Tarlton Corp., a leading St. Louis-based general contracting and construction management firm, promoted Andrew Nelch, LEED AP, to project director.

Nelch began his career with Tarlton in April 2006 as a project engineer. In August 2018 he was promoted to senior project manager, having previously served as a Tarlton project manager and senior project engineer. Nelch has worked on a number of significant projects at the firm, including the historic renovation of the core and shell at 900 N. Oculus Inc. Brings New Talent to Dallas Office

Brian Hahn joins Wiegmann Associates as Project Engineer

Construction Dive Selects McCarthy Project Manager Alisa Lewis as a 2022 Construction Champion

Alisa Lewis, project manager at McCarthy Building Companies, has been selected as a 2022 Construction Champion by Construction Dive, a national publication that highlights news and trends shaping the construction and building industry. The annual awards program coincides with Women in Construction Week (#WICWeek2022), March 6-12, 2022. 

Chosen from more than 650 submissions, Lewis is one of seven women recognized as an “Up-and-Coming Leader.” In total, Construction Dive selected 34 women who “stand as shining examples of how intuition, dedication and intelligence are shaping the industry.”

As a manager of the project controls team on the $1.7 billion Next NGA West campus under construction in north St. Louis, Lewis is helping to ensure that all design and construction work follows strict federal government regulations. Other projects she has helped bring to life during her 16-year McCarthy career include Mercy Heart Hospital in Creve Coeur, the William H. Danforth Wing at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, expansion of the Edward Jones south headquarters campus in Des Peres, the replacement hospital and medical office building for HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, Ill. and renovation of HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, Ill. Wellington Environmental Hires New EPA Scheduler and Client Liaison Communications Manager

Holland Construction Services Completes Upscale Apartment Complex in Maryland Heights, Missouri

Holland Construction Services has completed The Flats at Dorsett Ridge, a new $45 million, 214-unit luxury apartment complex in Maryland Heights, one-half mile west of the I-270 and Dorsett intersection. The project was developed by Pier Property Group and is now leasing.

Developer Michael Hamburg, owner of Pier Property Group, said this is his third project with Holland Construction Services and he is looking forward to working with them in the future. 

“Holland’s experience and expertise in building mid-rise luxury apartments shone through every step of the way on this project,” Hamburg said. “Their team takes a very process-oriented approach to their work, and they are excellent at problem-solving through any situation. This is a really challenging construction market right now but being able to have a team like Holland to rely on provides a ton of confidence going forward.”

Holland Construction Services is also working with Pier Property Group to complete the new Mill Creek Flats development in Midtown St. Louis which is expected to be finished within the next few months. The company also recently broke ground on the Flats at Wildhorse Village in Chesterfield, MO, which has a scheduled completion date of summer 2023. Hamburg said he is also working with Holland on their next venture in Midtown St. Louis, a 199-unit building with a Target store on the ground floor.

The Flats at Dorsett Ridge is a four-story, 236,000 sq. ft development. It includes a resort-style pool, outdoor game surface, grilling stations, state-of-the-art fitness center with yoga/cycling room, dog park, dog spa, business center, bike storage, and expansive balconies. Units have efficient floor plans, unobstructed views, fiber wireless internet, and high-end finishes, such as stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, tile shower surrounds, and custom flooring. The development also features a 315-car parking deck on the back of the site.

FitzGerald Associates architects and planners of Chicago partnered with Remiger Design of St. Louis on the design of the project.

Goodwin Brothers has been helping provide clean water to municipalities and cities across the Midwest for much of its 75-year history …not just with our innovative design-build solutions for water treatment plants, but by supporting organizations that provide clean water sources to areas that otherwise wouldn’t have access to drinking water.

Clean water projects first became a priority with the Clean Water Act of 1972.

The Clean Water Act set higher quality standards, allowed the EPA to implement pollution control programs, provided a basic structure for regulating pollutant discharges into the waters of the United States, and funded the construction of sewage treatment plants under the construction grants program.

Goodwin Brothers was there at the beginning providing manpower and know-how to this exciting frontier and continues this focus today as the industry keeps evolving.

Holland Construction Services Raises $25,000 for Two Local Nonprofits

Holland Construction Services is proud to announce their charitable foundation raised $25,000 total at its annual winter golf charity event, the Klondike Klassic. The money will benefit two local nonprofit organizations, Leaps of Love and Fore Honor Foundation. Both charities took home a $12,500 check to help support their causes.

“It is phenomenal to raise money for two very deserving organizations and I’m so proud of the hard work our team puts into this each year,” said Holland Construction Services President Mike Marchal. “We really accomplished something together on this special and heartwarming day. We have family members in the military, so the Fore Honor Foundation’s mission of honoring our servicemen and women hits close to home. Leaps of Love is also doing great things to help support local families and is an organization that our employees connected with.”

Leaps of Love is based out of Highland, IL and strives to help families impacted by late effects of childhood cancer and childhood brain tumors. They offer support services through retreats, events, and outings to provide hope, strength and encouragement.

“We are so excited to be selected as a recipient of the Klondike Klassic,” said Traci Riechmann, Founder and President of Leaps of Love. “It is a great donation and we are thrilled to use it towards the cost of our retreat in St. Charles for 8-10 of our St. Louis area families dealing with the late effects of childhood cancer and childhood brain tumors.”

Fore Honor Foundation is a golf course and venue in the St. Louis area that provides a place of healing and caring for military veterans, active military, fire & rescue, police, emergency responders and gold star families. Their mission is to provide a membership for local heroes to thank them for their service. With this donation they hope to create wellness programs to help those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury.

“This donation is very needed and sincerely appreciated,” said Andrea Politte, President & Founder of the Fore Honor Foundation. “It will help a great deal in our mission and vision of honor, respect, healing and wellness for those who serve. This donation is a beautiful testament to the kind of amazing people that work at Holland Construction Services.”

Since its inception in 1989, the Klondike Klassic has raised over $250,000 for local charities. In 2015, Holland created the Holland Employee Charitable Foundation (HECF). The organization is employee run and driven with the mission of helping others in the community through donations and volunteering. The HECF has helped make the Klondike Klassic an annual event, with funds raised going towards a local organization voted on annually by the seven member Foundation Advisory Committee.

Brian Hahn Joins Wiegmann Associates as Project Engineer

Brian Hahn of St. Charles, MO has joined Wiegmann Associates as a Project Engineer. He is responsible for designing and engineering energy-efficient, cost-effective and high-performing HVAC systems for Wiegmann Associates projects. He will perform heating and cooling loads for HVAC systems,select appropriate HVAC equipment and use 3D modeling software to generate design and construction documents.

Johnson II, Majors and Nguyen added to architecture and interior design teams

Oculus Inc., an award-winning, WBE-certified architecture and interior design firm, has added Lavell Johnson II and Si Nguyen to its architecture team and Erin Majors as an interior designer. All three will be based in Oculus’ Dallas office, and this will be Johnson’s second tenure with the company.

He has a Master of Architecture with an emphasis in Urban Design, plus a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Nguyen joins the architecture team with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington. He brings model processing experience in both exterior and interior design.

Erin Majors

As an addition to the interior design team, Majors, RID, IIDA, LEED Green Associate, comes to Oculus with five years of industry experience. She has worked on healthcare, commercial and higher-education projects where her tasks included producing design concepts and deliverables, creating renderings and performing site surveys. Majors has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Construction Management Partners, LLC (CMP) has hired Precious Jackson-Howlett as director of program management services. As a member of the leadership team, her responsibilities will include project management support, construction audit advisory, and diversity program management services.  

Jackson-Howlett comes to CMP from Alberici Constructors, where she was the diversity manager. She was a key participant in developing strategic business programs for projects worth more than $2 billion in construction services. Her responsibilities included developing and implementing programs to increase the business management skills of emerging subcontractors, assisting valued clients with developing community impact programs, and expanding the pool of diverse contractors. Bryon Muir of O’Fallon, MO, has been promoted to Vice President at Knoebel Construction. Muir will oversee the St. Louis-based general contractor’s construction and project management departments.
