S. M. Wilson & Co. is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Madison County Regional Office of Education (ROE) 41’s Construction Camp in Troy, IL. As a sponsor, the company seeks to support the organization’s commitment to working for the success of their students and community through better education.
Led by Regional Superintendent of Schools, Robert W. Werden, ROE 41 supports Illinois’ Public Education System by providing educators and the general public with access to information regarding education services, agencies and events.
In addition to providing resources for the community, ROE 41 also hosts its own events including Construction Camp as well as a STEM Camp and Ag Camp. This summer’s Construction Camp will include hands-on construction related work as well as classroom and lab activities. Camp activities will provide age appropriate knowledge and hands-on skill development in a fun learning environment.
S. M. Wilson is proud to sponsor this year’s event in collaboration with the firm’s construction career education program, SKILLED®. ROE 41’s Construction Camp is congruent with SKILLED’s mission to “inspire the future of construction.”
“We are excited to partner with Madison County ROE 41 through our SKILLED Program to provide students with a first-hand look into the construction industry. Participating in the Construction Camp, we hope to engage students and increase awareness of potential careers in construction,” says Kerry Lorts, Senior Project Manager. Lorts oversees S. M. Wilson’s Illinois office operations.
In addition to supporting individual student interest, S. M. Wilson’s SKILLED program strives to support the serious needs of the construction industry to promote career paths in the trades and provide access to those careers. At the camp, students in grades six through twelve will learn the basics of building. Skill sets will include how to build floors, walls, roofs as well as how to install doors, windows, siding and shingles while building a full size shed.
S. M. Wilson will assist with camp construction projects and provide construction site tours to the R. P. Lumber Center, a new recreation complex under construction for the City of Edwardsville.
The five-day Construction Camp will take place from 7:30am-2:30pm daily and is free for students. To learn more, visit https://bit.ly/3vumDQD.
