St. Louis CNR Accepts 2020 “Top 20 Women in Construction” Award Nominations

By KERRY SMITH, EDITOR, ST. LOUIS CONSTRUCTION NEWS AND REVIEW MAGAZINE

St. Louis Construction News and Review Magazine is looking for a few great women.

The publication’s first-ever “Top 20 Women in Construction” awards competition will recognize outstanding women working in the construction industry in and around St. Louis.

St. Louis CNR will be requesting nomination submissions from Aug. 1-Sept. 31 from a variety of categories: construction management/general contracting, subcontracting, architecture, engineering, construction ownership, marketing, professional services firms and construction industry associations.

The winners’ stories will be featured in St. Louis CNR’s November-December 2020 print edition.

Publisher Mike Chollet says the awards are a salute to the many outstanding women working daily to design, engineer and build St. Louis’ future. “More than ever, women are making their impact felt in the construction industry. We would like to do our part in recognizing their work.”

Women comprise 10.3 percent of the national construction workforce, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Of the top 100 contractors in the U.S., 44 percent employ women in executive positions. St. Louis examples of construction industry women in top leadership roles include S. M. Wilson & Co. President Amy Berg and Tarlton Corp. President and CEO Tracy Hart.

According to national online construction equipment provider Big Rentz, women in construction comprise 45 percent of sales and office staff, 31 percent of management and 21 percent of construction and maintenance teams. A total of 13 percent of construction firms nationwide are women-owned, representing a 64 percent increase over the past five years.

A “Top 20” panel of female judges representing the following industry sectors will evaluate the submitted nominations.

The nomination form will be available Aug. 1 on St. Louis CNR’s website, stlouiscnr.com. A modest submission fee of $150 per submission will be required, along with the completed nomination form and a high-res color image of the nominee. Winners will be notified during the last week in October.
