22nd Annual McCarthy Charity Softball Tournament Raises $6,500 for St. Louis Organizations

Sixteen local architecture and engineering firms compete in tournament and five teams vie for ‘master griller’ title.

A co-ed softball tournament and grilling competition hosted by McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has raised $6,500 for three local charities. Sixteen local architecture and engineering firms competed in the 22nd annual tournament, which took place August 4 at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex in O’Fallon, Mo. Since its debut in 1996, the tournament has raised more than $100,000 to benefit St. Louis area community organizations.

McClure Engineering emerged as the 2018 McCarthy Charity Softball Tournament champion and will donate its $3,500 prize to the local chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA, which supports community-driven development programs that design and implement sustainable engineering projects. Runner-up champion HR Green is donating its $1,500 prize to Friends of Kids with Cancer, an organization devoted to enriching the daily lives of children undergoing treatment for, and survivors of, cancer and blood-related diseases.

During the event, five local engineering and specialty contractor teams showcased their culinary skills in the “master griller” competition. Winner TJ Wies Contracting will donate its $1,500 prize to Family Forward, which delivers comprehensive therapeutic and educational services to support biological, foster and adoptive families.

“We look forward to hosting this tournament every year because it brings together so many of our industry friends in a collaborative, fun event that benefits some deserving community organizations,” said Ray Elking, McCarthy preconstruction director and tournament coordinator. “McCarthy is proud to help grow and strengthen the St. Louis community that has been our hometown for more than 100 years.”
