For the first time in the organization’s 97-year history, the Associated General Contractors of Missouri is endorsing a political candidate.

AGCMO President Leonard Toenjes says the organization’s board of directors modified its policy to be able to officially endorse Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe in his November 2024 gubernatorial bid.

Kehoe, 60, a Republican, has been serving as the state’s 48th lieutenant governor since his appointment in June 2018 after serving as state senator. He was elected in 2020 to continue serving as lieutenant governor alongside Governor Mike Parson.

Toenjes says the AGCMO has worked closely with Kehoe for 15 years in advancing opportunities for the construction industry throughout Missouri.

“Mike Kehoe is a great business supporter,” said Toenjes. “He has served on Missouri’s Highways and Transportation Commission, worked as a business owner and serves as a member of the Missouri Finance Development Board. He understands business and investment in construction, and the investments that can be made in this state. Mike has worked to break precedent for all of us. The AGC of Missouri is proud to be able to endorse him as our next governor,” he added. “It’s a real opportunity in Missouri to have someone like him in the governor’s mansion.”
