First Continuing Care Retirement Center in College Station, Texas
Spellman Brady & Company, an award-winning interior design firm, completed the comprehensive 156,162 square foot interior design for The Langford Retirement Community in College Station, Texas, a Methodist Retirement Communities (MRC) property. Spellman Brady was responsible for the design along with the procurement of the project’s furniture, accessories and artwork.
The Langford is located in College Station, the home of Texas A&M University’s main campus and is College Station’s only Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). It is a tribute to Ernest Langford, known by some as the “Father of College Station”, who served as the city’s mayor for 23 years along with serving as the head of A&M’s Architecture Department, now known as the Langford Architecture Center, from 1929 to 1956.
The retirement community includes a main clubhouse, independent and assisted living buildings, as well as memory care. The Clubhouse features a lobby with lounge seating and a welcoming fireplace, two dining venues, a fitness center and multi-purpose room. The 72 independent living units are organized in three, 4-story buildings each with its own community room with inviting views of the site’s outdoor scenic, spaces. The assisted living community consists of a 2-story building with 24 units, a dining venue, a salon and an arts and crafts room. Memory Support includes 18 units that open up to the community space, a country kitchen, several living rooms, an activity area and an outdoor memory garden.
The overall concept for the project’s interior design reflects the blended aesthetics of the Texas A&M college town and the surrounding landscapes. The spaces have a combination of a rustic flare and an elegant, timeless appeal to all generations. The warm woods and stone treatments grace common spaces with natural light streaming in almost every public space. The bursts of green and a nod to Texas A&M Maroon provide additional spirit to The Langford for all that enter it.
”It looks awesome…very pleased with the outcome. Thank you for all you’ve done in support of our mission!” Ron Jennette, Methodist Retirement Community.
The artwork planning and selection was a crucial detail in the overall design planning and sharing of The Langford story. Selections of local scenery, custom glass creations and David Langford, Ernest’s grandson, photography is showcased throughout the property.
The close proximity to the university, shops, medical, and nature trails helps The Langford immerse itself in the college town. With community in mind, the interior is a blended mix of timeless design and rich history.
